During this period most of my attention was given to a series of working exhibitions and then, from 1980, to a full-time teaching role and helping to raise our young family. However I continued to produce paintings exploring a number of themes – particularly including: the representation of landscape and the natural world; and the construction of a pictorial equivalence for feelings and sensations. A selection of work from this period was included in an exhibition at Reading City Art Gallery in August 1979 – photographs of the exhibition suggest there was a significant number of large works on display. I have very little visual documentation of this work as can be seen, or not seen, below. Some of these works included words and phrases, but many did not. This is probably as close as I’ve come to being a painter<\/em> in the sense of being primarily concerned with paint, colour, form and composition.<\/p>\n
